Parents of troubled teens often find themselves swimming in information when they first start to investigate options for their teenager. There are teen boot camps, military schools, wilderness therapy, residential treatment, and teen counseling programs, all of which sound as if they might be the solution to the behavioral problems of your teen.
Often the first step is to discuss your teen's issues with a school counselor. They may recommend private therapy or an after-school program. If your teen is also failing school, they may recommend tutoring or after-school homework help programs. Teens tend to respond differently to therapy than do adults. Creative therapeutic solutions may be helpful. Drama therapy, art therapy, or other creative types of therapeutic treatment may be more effective in treating adolescents.
If the problem really begins to become unmanageable even after a parent has tried these methods, sometimes the best answer is to remove the child from the immediate environment.
